Vilundamavadi

Vilundamavadi panchayat in Kilvelur taluk of Nagapattinam district has about 1800 households in total. The fishing hamlets in this village are about 150 households.

As in most other villages in this region, Vilundamavadi received official warnings only for winds and rainfall. The warning for sea flooding only mentioned storm surges of upto 1 metre height. In lieu of this, all of them parked their boats over 500m inwards from their regular parking spot on the beach. However, they received no word about the possible extent of sea flooding.

Over 45-50 small boats and kattumarams are said to be damaged badly.

JCBs were able to clear the approach road to the fishing hamlets only 2 days after the cyclone. The internal roads however are still a mess, as on 18/11/2018

The sea flooding has wrecked many houses and house belongings. This family has lost a chunk of their savings and documents.

The sea flooding combined with the crazy winds have smashed boats on to houses and thrown many boats far away.
Since the approach roads were not accessible till 17th evening, fishers survived on just the numerous coconuts for over 2 days.
