After tsunami, cyclone Gaja is the worst natural disaster to hit Tamil Nadu, NDRF DC Raajan Baalu says
After 2004 tsunami, cyclone is the worst natural disaster to hit . It left a trail of destruction in several coastal districts and took a toll on agriculture to a serious extent, said deputy commandant of NDRF Raajan Baalu in an interview to TOI.
The wind speed of Gaja was equal to cyclone Vardha, which hit Chennai and other northern districts in 2016. Hence the damage was limited. But cyclone Gaja hit several coastal districts, particularly , Cuddalore, and adjoining districts like Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Pudukottai. Several parts of the interior districts like Dindigal and Trichy have also faced the wrath of the cyclone.
