Updates on 26/11/2018 : Faulty assesments by the Govt agencies

Relief efforts by govt as well as private agencies are slowly gathering pace. Photo below shows dry rations distributions at Seruthur - a village on the main road with relatively easier access and approach than others, on 26/11/2018.

But other interior villages like Kameswaram shown below where all the families are reliant on community kitchens. There are still 125 out of the 300 families who are not only eating, but also living and sleeping in the relief camps here, as on 26/11/2018.

While relief work is just gathering momentum, the govt has already moved on to rehabilitation mode, without relief phase reaching closure. For instance in Seruthur village, the govt in preparation for the Central Assessment Team visit has announced on a board that this village had only 102 boats as part of compensation, despite there being almost 300 boats, even in records of the state fisheries dept. In retaliation, villagers have erased that figure from the board.

To add to the complexity, only boats are being counted, damage to boat repair and boat building infrastructure is not being counted. Hence, these boat yards fear that they may not recieve any help from the govt.
